Maya Area Message Boards
Here is a chance to ask questions of those who have been there. The fact that I list a website with a racist moniker (the "g" word) should not be construed to mean that I am so inclined. I hope I would never be so contemptuous as to call someone a "gringo." I welcome any additions to this list that are both active and somewhat interesting. If you think I have been overly generous in including some message board here, please let me know why at duende at mostlymaya.com. Here they are:
However, if you have a burning question, the Lonely Planet Thorn Tree is one way to go. Here you are able to ask logistical questions of many travelers around the World. Just do a search of the site for your topic before asking a question that may have been covered a number of times right before you came on board. And whatever you do, be polite and don't ask questions that are too broad, as if you want people to do everything for you.
The Belize Forums allow you to ask questions in a number of categorical forums.
Ambergris Caye, Belize has a section for the rest of Belize as well.
Belizeans.com has a quirky board that is active, but seems mostly
useful to see what some of the Belizeans are saying.
"Bill in Tulsa's Message Board". About Akumal, Tankah, Xcalak and other areas
of the Riviera Maya Yucatan and Quintana Roo, Mexico
To me a "Riviera" conjures up visions of dollar signs flying away.
Scroll way down to get to the messages.
Cancún. If you have questions about the hotel area and region area, they have answers.
What a place it has become! Except for the occasional drunken and loud tourist, downtown was pleasant twenty years ago. Oddly enough, downtown is probably better now unless you want to go to the beach. The loud tourists are out on the strip.
Cancunlite has an active message board.
Cozumel has a fairly active board about the location.
Here is another one.
For Isla Mujeres questions, see
There does not appear to be an active forum for Mérida, but if you
need info for getting by there or in Yucatán State, check out Yucatán Living.
Paradise is all about Río Dulce, Guatemala.
I really must stop in the area some time.
See a Mexican Cooking bulletin board.
Playa del Carmen, Mexico is not just a pleasant little village any more. It's actually none of those things.
For questions about Xcalak and Majahual, go to this active board
The Xela Board is all about Quetzaltenango, Guatemala,
but if you are going there and are willing to be chilly, it is a good board
to review before you go.
