Hotel Royale, Quiriguá
Located somewhat near the ruins of Quiriguá, the hotel received an accolade in the guide book we were using as "pleasant and airy" and "an oasis in this hot town." So we went there. The people working there seemed unfriendly, but it was late and we mostly wanted to eat and sleep. Although the service was sullen, a fellow who may have been the owner was friendly.
I have never been in a hotel in Guatemala that I liked less. To me, the Hotel Royale, near Quiriguá was a time to count the minutes and hours until sunrise, It wasn't quite so much the fact that the people didn't seem friendly. It also was not that the beds were uncomfortable. It was mostly that the place was hot, is normally seen to be hot and they claimed to not to have enough fans to give us one for our room.
The better bet for a traveler to Quiriguá may be to stop at Los Amates and to see the ruins from there the next day. If the Hotel Royale counts on me for a return, they will go broke.
